Reverse Engineering
Rebuilding accurate, editable CAD from a physical part when no digital model exists.
Overview
Legacy parts, discontinued components, and tooling that predates digital CAD all share the same problem: no usable digital model exists, so modifying, replacing, or re-manufacturing the part starts from a physical object instead of a file.
We rebuild that part as accurate, editable parametric CAD — from careful measurement, from 3D scan data, or from a combination of both depending on geometry complexity and the accuracy required — so it can be modified, documented, or sent for manufacturing quotes like any other design.
We'll tell you plainly where measurement-based reconstruction is sufficient and where scan data is genuinely required for the accuracy you need, rather than guessing on complex freeform geometry.
Who this is for
- Teams needing to replace or modify a discontinued or legacy part
- Companies that inherited tooling or products with no digital CAD
- Projects starting from a competitor product or physical reference for benchmarking
Process
Assessment
Determine whether measurement or scan-based reconstruction fits the geometry and accuracy needed.
Data capture
Measurement or processing of provided scan/point-cloud data.
CAD reconstruction
Rebuild as parametric, editable CAD rather than a static mesh copy.
Validation
Check reconstructed geometry against the source part or data for accuracy.
FAQ
Do you perform the 3D scanning yourselves?
Tell us what's available — we can work from scan data you provide, or advise on scanning services appropriate to your part's size and required accuracy if you don't have a scan yet.
